WAS IT WORTH IT?

Why are some of the most beautiful pieces of music in the world also the saddest?

Will the world remember you
When you fall?
Could it be your death
Means nothing at all?
Is your life just one more lie?

(Les Miserables - Drink with Me)

Was it worth it then? Is it today? Will it be tomorrow?

心恋 (HEART’S LONGING)

Title: Heart’s Longing
Singer: Xu Xiao Feng
Album: 《Xu Xiao Feng 1978-1988》

I yearn for a secret glance at him,

While pretending to admire a vase of flowers.
I can only look at him in secret,
While pretending it is a painting I am viewing.
Afraid that he will think me silly if he knew,
My eyes can only avoid his.
And although I would also like to speak to him,

But by his side, there is another she.

(Note: The not-quite-there English translation is my own. My apologies for the massacre of the language.)

SB-SICKNESS

I was browsing Lydia Teh's "My Kitchen" website when I felt this strong sense of missing SB. Not sure why reading and looking at yummy foods and recipes would elicit that response. Probably because the stuff featured on Lydia's blog were mostly familiar Asian/Chinese home-cooked goodies and also many Japanese dishes, since her husband is a Japanese. All which made me think of homesickness and then SB for some reason.

Perhaps it also had to do with SB's liking to make special breakfasts for the family now and then, and her surfing for special recipes to do so.

Its been slightly over a week and I think SB has settled in Tokyo somewhat. I know she is missing home a great deal. Well, on normal days when I have things to occupy my mind, I get by, but on Sundays when I have nothing much to do, I do miss her and her crappiness. The house is a much quieter and serious place without her ditziness and silliness. Sometimes that is good though. :) The rest of us need a bit of that now and then to lighten up the atmosphere, especially since the only male in the family is now kind of prone to hissy fits in his old age.

Well, I just have to get used to it already.....

EMPTY CHAIRS AND EMPTY TABLES?

I came home today and by reflex, glanced into SB's room to see if she is there.

An empty room with half filled boxes greeted me. Then I remembered.

How come it takes me longer to get used to it this time?

I WISH FOR.....

Sometimes, I wish I could wake up late, and you come in with the breakfast tray in your hands. We have breakfast in bed together, maybe have a leisurely romp. After that I sit in the cool garden shade enjoying a good book and a cool drink, while you potter around the flowers. I love reading. You love gardening.

Other times, I wish I could wake up early in the morning and prepare breakfast before you awaken. Then I would wake you with a good morning kiss and serve up your breakfast piping hot. I would then send you off to work with a wifely straightening of your tie, and then devote the rest of the day to doing laundry and sprucing up the house, all the while waiting eagerly for your return.

And there are also times, when I wish it was just you and me, on a luxury yatch in the Carribean, doing nothing but loving and playing, and generally not having a single care in the world.

And times when all I wish for is to wake up in the middle of the night and feel your presence beside me.

I wish......but first, I have to find you.

STEPSISTERS' LAMENT.....ALSO MINE.....

Stepsisters' Lament

Why would a fellow want a girl like her?
A frail and fluffy beauty?
Why can't a fellow ever once prefer
A solid girl like me?

She's a frothy little bubble
With a flimsy kind of charm
And with very little trouble
I could break her little arm!

Why would a fellow want a girl like her
So obviously unusual?
Why can't a fellow ever once prefer
A usual girl like me?

Her face is exquisite as a rose
But no more exquisite than a rose is
Her skin may be delicate and soft
But no softer than a doe's is

Her neck is no longer than a swan's
She is only as dainty as a daisy
She is only as graceful as a bird
So why is the fellow going crazy?

Why would a fellow want a girl like her?
A girl who is merely lovely?
Why can't a fellow ever once prefer
A girl who is merely me?

She's a frothy little bubble
With a frilly sort of air
And with very little trouble
I could pull out all her hair!

Why would a fellow want a girl like her
A girl who is merely lovely?
Why can't a fellow ever once prefer
A girl who is merely me?

What's the matter with the man?
What's the matter with the man?
What's the matter with the man?!

- From Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella"

Direct hit.....sigh.....
