HOUSEWIFE TURNS PRO BOXER AT AGE 45

Meet Kazumi Izaki, a housewife who turned professional boxer a year ago at age 45.

Earlier this year, I was wondering whether there was any point in my continuing the expensive Muay Thai lessons, since I was almost certain that I would never be good enough to compete. Even if I did manage to reach a level of proficiency in the sport, I was almost sure that my age would work against me by the time I achieved that level. All Muay Thai could be to me was a fun and interesting way to lose/maintain my weight and fitness levels.

And don't quote me Dara Torres. As impressive as I find her, she HAD been a medal winning athlete before she retired to take up marriage and motherhood. We are definitely not in the same league.

Don't get me wrong. I am definitely not intending to go pro. But it would be nice to be good enough to compete one day, even at an amateur level. Gives me some impetus to work at improving my skills.

Ms Kazumi Izaki gives me hope yet.
