NO OR NEVER?

How does one say "NO" without hurting someone else?

How to get the point across that "NO" doesn't mean "NEVER", but just "NOT NOW"?

Would people prefer excuses, or the plain truth? More importantly, can those who ask for the plain truth take the plain truth?

Is it better to save myself the trouble and really make it "NEVER EVER" instead of trying to get the point across?
