The verdict is out; there will be a wage freeze for me this year. All managerial grades M and above shall receive no salary increment this year.
Which is not so bad really, considering the unemployment situations, wage cuts etc that many others are facing. Still, it is a disappointment, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t expecting otherwise.
That said, when I read about the potential big bonuses that await those who brought this whole brouhaha to into being in the first place, there is an urge to…..maybe hire a contract killer, or concoct some Molotov cocktails or something. It is a good thing I am miles away from Wall Street.
I am convinced after all that it really doesn’t pay to go into engineering. You work hard, save your money, and somehow it ends up in the pocket of the lawyers and bankers. I really should have chosen my profession with more care years ago.
It is not too late though. The option to switch to a legal career is still open, though it may involve some maneuvering and opportunity costs on my side. The question now is whether I will be able stand an entire lifetime of spouting and interpreting legalese. And being the butt of lawyer jokes. I am still pondering this question. And knowing me, it will take me until the next decade, if at all, to come up with an answer and make a decision.
In the meantime, I shall have to go and do some magic with numbers and see what this wage freeze will do to my personal budget. And maybe look up the recipe for Molotov cocktails.
